Revised fee structure for schools from next academic year: Tanveer Sait
a number of schools in the city have completed admissions already with some hiking their annual fee by a whopping 25 per cent.
Bengaluru: The amended Karnataka Educational Institution Rules will be officially notified by the end of January and the revised fee structure will be implemented across schools from the academic year 2018-19, according to Primary and Secondary Education Minister, Tanveer Sait.
“Presently we have called for objections and suggestions from the stakeholders concerned and the public. The department will see to it that the revised fee structure is implemented across schools in the state from the academic year 2018-19,” he told the Deccan Chronicle.
Although a number of schools in the city have completed admissions already with some hiking their annual fee by a whopping 25 per cent, he warned that admissions made before the DPI calendar of events was announced would be considered ‘violations’ and the schools would be asked to refund the excess amount collected before the start of the academic year. Revealing that the department had been receiving complaints from parents about such instances since October ,he warned that strict action would be taken to put a stop to this.
Mr D. Shashikumar, general secretary of the Karnataka Associated Managements of Primary and Secondary Schools (KAMS), said it had submitted objections to the draft amendements along with other stakeholders also pointed out arithmetic errors in the government formulae.
“Although a rigid fee structure cannot be finalised by the government for all schools, we are all for a government regulation. Schools which charge an exorbitant fee and those which have no accountability must be dealt with,” he agreed.
One school principal said the authorities were not taking action against erring institutions because of they were biased in their favour.
“Most of the so-called premier schools are run by managements that have close ties with top people in the state government. Such announcements and promises never come into practice and are simply part of the electoral gimmick played by the politicians,” he contended.
