Hyderabad: Heritage lovers are objecting to placement of Swachh dustbins near the pedestrian zone at Charminar, saying it ruins the monument’s iconic beauty.

They agree that cleanliness is a must but say dustbins can’t be placed haphazardly. “The pedestrian walkway attracts a lot of people. Many come early in the morning and late at night to take walks,” said Deepak Gir of Heritage Trust Hyderabad. “The place has to be kept neat and clean. But it must be done in an aesthetic manner keeping in mind the heritage precincts.”

Pedestrians who come in the morning say the whole stretch from Patherghati to Charminar is littered with plastics, garbage and filth. The sight can be quite disgusting. But it must be done in a way that it does not create more problems.

Heritage lovers say the blue and green dustbins are an eyesore and GHMC should have thought of a different manner to implement the programme.
