Chhattisgarh police form special team to probe attack on Soni Sori
Sori's face was blackened with grease-like substance by three unidentified attackers while she was travelling on a motorcycle.
Raipur: Chhattisgarh police has constituted a special team to probe the alleged attack on AAP leader Soni Sori by three motorcycle-borne assailants on February 20 night in south Bastar's Dantewada district.
"The three-member special squad comprises two IPS officers - Additional Superintendent of Police (Sukma) Santosh Singh, ASP (Bijapur) Indira Kalyan Elesela besides a woman City Superintendent of Police (Jagdalpur) Deepmala Kashyap," Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range, S R P Kalluri said.
Sori's face was blackened with grease-like substance by three unidentified attackers while she was travelling on a motorcycle with one of her associates from Jagdalpur, headquarters of Bastar to Geedam in Dantewada.
She was subsequently taken to Geedam from where she was shifted to Jagdalpur hospital, where she was kept under observation.
However at that time the police had claimed that she was attacked with a liquid that "seemed to be grease diluted with chemical".
Later, on February 21, the AAP leader was shifted to Delhi by her supporters and was admitted in Apollo hospital where she is recovering.
A case was registered under section 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC in this regard against unidentified persons at the Geedam police station.
In the wake of the attack, the Chhattisgarh government had yesterday offered 'Y' category security to Ms Sori but she had rejected it saying the government should rather think of providing security to tribal inhabitants of Bastar.
