Girl abduction case: Tiruvannamalai SP to be present in Madras High Court
The bench said the petition was pending from December 2015.
Chennai: Expressing concern over the safety and security of a minor girl, allegedly kidnapped by her former driver and his relatives in December last year, and pulling up the police for not taking any serious steps, the Madras high court has directed the superintendent of police, Tiruvannamalai, to be personally present in the court on February 26 and submit the latest information relating to the case.
A division bench comprising Justices S. Nagamuthu and M. Sathyanarayanan gave the directive on a habeas corpus petition filed by N. Venkatesan, father of the 16-year-old girl.
The bench said the petition was pending from December 2015. The detenue was a school going minor girl, who was kidnapped on December 13, 2015. Though several adjournments were given, only status report has been filed by the investigation officer and no fruitful improvement done.
The status report filed by the investigation officer dated February 16, 2016, revealed that there was no clue about the whereabouts of the minor girl. “We are concerned with the safety and security of the minor girl. It appears that the superintendent of police is not taking any steps. When we made a specific query to the Additional public prosecutor as to who has come to give instructions to him, he said that nobody has turned out.
The additional public prosecutor is directed to inform the superintendent of police, Tiruvannamalai, to be present before the court to submit about the latest information on Febr-uary 26”, the bench added.
According to petitioner, his daughter was studying plus-2 in a private school. He engaged Suresh, aged 32 as his driver and on coming to know about his attitude and character, he discontinued his service. Taking revenge, he along with his relatives and friends had kidnapped his daughter on December 13 from his residence, when he and his wife were away from home.
