TIRUCHY: The People welfare front (PWF) plans to form vigilance groups to check the distribution of money to the voters by the ruling AIADMK and the DMK in the coming elections to the Tamil Nadu State Assembly.

Disclosing this the MDMK general secretary and PWF convenor, Mr Vaiko, on the sidelines of the party’s 24th general council meeting held here on Wednesday, expressed dismay at the ‘money power’ of both the Dravidian majors- DMK and AIADMK.

Asked whether the PWF will challenge legally, if the ruling AIADMK promulgated prohibitory orders under section 144 of the IPC as in the case of Lok Sabha elections, Mr.Vaiko said that they would oppose any such move legally.

He reiterated his claim that for the first time, there will be a coalition government in Tamil Nadu after the Assembly polls, adding, the coalition Government will ensure checks and balances with a common minimum programme.

Replying to a question, he hoped that both the DMDK and Tamil Manila Congress would join in the PWF. When a reporter asked whether the PWF would accept Mr Vijayakanth’s “King” role, he replied, “if such a situation arises, we will consider the same.”

To another query, Mr Vaiko said that 12 lakh employees of the Tamil Nadu Government were “angry” against both the ruling AIADMK and the DMK for their anti-labour attitude, adding, the employees might support the PWF in the forthcoming assembly elections.

Mr Vaiko, to a third query, replied that the Election Commission of India (ECI) should take note of the DMK’s full page advertisements in the leading Newspapers and take suitable action against them.

Mr Vaiko strongly criticised the AIADMK government’s inhuman attitude for granting only 11 hours parole to Mrs Nalini, a life convict in the Ragiv Gandhi assassination case, to attend the funeral of her father.

Vellamandi Somu, the MDMK’s Tiruchy urban district president, briefing newsmen on the resolutions adopted at the party’s 24th general council meeting, said that the meeting called upon voters of Tamil Nadu, especially the youngsters, to vote for the PWF in the coming assembly elections, in order retrieve the state “from the clutches of both the DMK and AIADMK, besides setting right Tamil Nadu in all aspects.”
