Musical treat: Urur Olcott Kuppam Vizha on Saturday, Sunday
Renowned classical singers like T.M Krishna, dancers like Shreejith Krishna, Raghu Dixit and Sean Roldan are expected to perform.
Chennai: Looking to bond minds, culture and people with music as a tool, the ‘Urur Olcott Kuppam Vizha’ a music extravaganza that is set to enthuse people with classical and local dances, will be held at the Ellaiamman temple at Urur Olcott Kuppam fishing village on February 27 and 28.
The musical event will have ‘Parayattam’, ‘Villupattu’, ‘Nagaswaram’ fusion music and classical dances and will highlight the centrality of the fishing village to the city’s identity. Renowned classical singers like T.M Krishna, dancers like Shreejith Krishna, Raghu Dixit and Sean Roldan are expected to perform.
“The floods were a sobering reminder to the rich and the poor in the city of our shared environmental fate as residents. The event is a celebration of our common cultural heritage and an invitation to enjoy art forms and explore spaces outside one’s comfort zones,” said Krishna.
In the lead up to the festival, three main fests were held on February 20, including a performance by Krishna, and Carnatic recital by Gayathri Venkataraghavan.
The festival is an effort to liberate arts, artists and audiences and use arts to heal social tensions and serve as a bridge across cultures, communities and genres.
