Visakhapatnam: 2 Maoists killed in encounter

Two Maoists were killed in an encounter with the Greyhounds near Annavaram of Koyyuru mandal in Vizag Agency on Friday.

Visakhapatnam: Two Maoists were killed in an encounter with the Greyhounds near Annavaram of Koyyuru mandal in Vizag Agency on Friday. They were identified as Gemmeli Narayan Rao alias Jambri and Chittibabu. Jambri of Mettiguda under GK Veedhi Mandal in Vizag Agency, was a divisional committee member of the Galikonda area committee and a top tribal leader in Vizag Agency. Chittibabu hailed from Veeravaram of GK Veedhi mandal.

The police recovered two weapons, including a sub-machine gun, a shotgun, three detonators, two kit bags and Maoist literature from the encounter site. Visakha Rural SP Rahul Dev Sharma said the police party reached the spot on specific intelligence and came under heavy fire, resulting in the encounter. Sources said Jambri carried a reward of Rs 4 lakh on his head. Jambri had harassed Maoists and had faced punishment. He faced about 65 cases. Sources said Jambri played a key role in killing 37 Greyhounds in Balimela in 2008.
