ALAPPUZHA: A petitioner has moved the High Court against the Chettikulangara Devi temple for contempt of court by performing banned Chooral Muriyal defying its order.  Court is expected to take up  case on Tuesday. The petitioner's counsel said he had submitted details of some 30 children being subjected to the ruthless ritual on February 22 on the temple premises.

'We wanted the lawbreakers prosecuted at earliest. They have not only defied court orders but broke an undertaking they had given to the court. Apart from this, police and Travancore Devaswom Boardhad served separate notices on devotees who offered Kuthiyottam," he told DC.

Though the police on Friday had registered first information report (FIR) against the temple authorities, parents of kids and persons who offered Kuthiyottam, a ritualistic representation of human sacrifice, on contempt of court charges, but there were no arrests so far. District police chief S. Surendran said the concerned inspector was asked to collect CCTV footage and medical reports. Kids below 8  had participated in  ritual.
