Karnataka: No plan for anti-Romeo squads here, says Dr G Parameshwar
But in Karnataka, there is absolutely no need for such squads.
Bengaluru: Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwar on Friday said that it not necessary to set up Anti-Romeo Squads in the city on the lines of Uttar Pradesh.
He said, “The law and order situation in our state is far better than in Uttar Pradesh and such squads are set up there due to increasing cases of crime against women. But in Karnataka, there is absolutely no need for such squads. If at all we need one, we will bring in even more stringent measures.”
He visited the all-woman police station in Shivajinagar, which was shifted from Ulsoor Gate recently, interacted with the women police staff and took details of the cases registered at the station.
He said that there are plans to start patrolling by women police staff to curb crimes against women and children in the city. “It will make a difference, as they can easily talk to women and we hope that it will bring down crimes against women and children. We will decide on women patrolling soon,” he said.
He said that the police have introduced mobile apps for women safety and women in distress should make use of such apps. City Police Commissioner Praveen Sood, Additional Commissioner Hemant Nimbalkar, DCP (East) Ajay Hilori and others were present.
