Three killed, 59 injured in two Central TN road accidents
The bus was proceeding to Peravurani from Chennai and the bus driver lost control of the wheel, leading to the capsize.
Nagapattinam: Three persons including two children were killed and 59 others injured in two separate road accidents in Nagapattinam and Karur districts since Saturday.
Police said that three persons including two children aged 4 and a three-month-old infant were killed on the spot and 29 others injured when a private omnibus in which they were travelling overturned after hitting a roadside electric post at Neikuppai near Kuthalam in Nagapattinam district in the early hours of Sunday.
The bus was proceeding to Peravurani from Chennai and the bus driver lost control of the wheel, leading to the capsize. On information, police and fire and rescue services department personnel rushed to the spot and sent all the 29 injured to government hospitals at Mayiladuthurai and Tiruivarur. The deceased were identified as Johsi Meena (4) and her baby sister Sadhana Subashree of Mannargudi and Nadimuthu (36) of Pattukkottai.
In another accident, 30 people were injured when the chartered bus in which they were travelling collided with a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus at Melakurapalayam village near Kulithalai in Karur district on Saturday night. The injured hail from Chinnadharapuram and were on their way home after attending Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa’s election campaign meeting at Tiruchy last night, when the mishap occurred. They were admitted to government hospitals at Kulithalai and Tiruchy, police added.
