Sr. Maoist leader might have been killed too

Sources in the police are yet to confirm the death of the Maoist leader in the encounter.

Hyderabad: Senior Maoist leader Muppala Lakshman Rao alias Ganapathy, 68, one of the senior-most leaders of the banned CPM, the largest left-wing extremist organisation in the country, could be among the 31 Maoists killed in a gunfight with Maharashtra Police on Sunday. 

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Gadchiroli Range) Ankush Shinde told the media that according to prior information received by the police,Ganapathy was in Kaswapur jungle to hold a secret meeting of rebels when the police took on the rebels. 

“The bodies are yet to be identified. But our information is that when the C-60 attacked the meeting camp, Ganapathy was there,” Shinde, who has been supervising the operation in south Gadchiroli since Saturday, said. 

Sources in the police are yet to confirm the death of the Maoist leader in the encounter.
