Kalaburagi:Veteran Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday reiterated that he was confident of winning the Lok Sabha election again from Kalaburagi.

During an interaction with the media, Mr Kharge said, “People here have elected the Congress candidate 11 times...he will be elected once more”.

He was of the view that a better percentage of voting would have been possible if  no glitches had occurred in the voting machines. “The voting machines failed at about 200 places.. the administration should have taken proper measures. Moreover in view of the scorching heat conditions, facilities like supply of drinking water should have been ensured,” he said.

He regretted the dismal voting percentage even in places where the educated class lives. “These people who show no responsibility to cast their votes, will make all kinds of comments after the results are announced”, he remarked.

Asked who would be the Congress candidate for the Chincholi Assembly seat where a by-election is scheduled to be held, Mr Kharge said state level leaders will hold a meeting with the District Congress Committee(DCC) office-bearers to ascertain their views in Bengaluru on April 25. “A suitable candidate will be fielded in the seat”, he added.

Mr Kharge, who left for Delhi, said he would be proceeding to Shirdi for canvassing after paying a day’s visit to the national capital.
