Teachers await government decision on preponing summer vacations in Telangana
Government school teachers have been demanding closure of schools after SSC exams were cancelled
Hyderabad: The decision to allow government teachers early vacations and stop teachers from attending schools physically remains pending with the state government authorities, days after a representation from the teachers' association was submitted with the education department.
The government school teachers, who are attending schools physically even after the cancellation of SSC examinations have been demanding that schools be closed for them in view of lack of attendance of students, and the ever increasing COVID-19 cases among teachers in the past one week.
The representation from the Telangana State United Teachers' Federation (TSUTF) was submitted with the state education department on April 19, which is still pending at the Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar's desk.
"We are still waiting for any decision, which we are told will be given in the next few days. We are hopeful that schools will be shut by April 27 or by May 1. Many teachers even tested positive for Covid-19 already, and we are worried for their safety", said Chava Ravi, General Secretary, TSUTF.
Deccan Chronicle correspondent tried reaching out to the chief secretary Somesh Kumar, however there had been no reply till the publishing of this article.
