DMK takes up killing of Tamil labourers in AP
The DMK had come out against the medical entrance tests even before the Assembly elections.
Chennai: After narrowly losing the Assembly elections, the DMK picked up two key issues for its political agenda. The party’s executive committee passed resolutions on two issues - the killing of labourers belonging to Tamil Nadu in Andhra Pradesh and entrance test for medical students.
The DMK had come out against the medical entrance tests even before the Assembly elections. Its latest resolution urged the Centre to scrap the tests permanently. The party said “The entrance tests discriminates between students who speak Hindi and other languages and creates similar inequality in opportunities between rural and urban students”.
In another resolution the DMK strongly condemned the “attempts by Andhra police to protect the policemen who murdered 20 labourers belonging to Tamil Nadu”. It urged the state government to file a case demanding CBI probe into the incident, besides putting pressure on the Centre for such an Inquiry.
The DMK also flayed the Election Commission alleging that its activities were in favour of the DMK. It also listed the issues of money seizure and demanded a CBI probe into them. The DMK felicitated Karunanidhi for his victory by a record margin and remaining unbeaten for 13 Assembly elections. The DMK had lost by a thin margin, another resolution pointed out and thanked the voters for their support.
