Total blackout in Guntur
Heavy rain and gales snap power supply for past three days.
GUNTUR: The citizens of Guntur had sleepless nights for the past four days as the power supply was cut due to sudden rain and gales.
The APSPDCL officials said that the power was ijnterrupted due to uprooting of trees and hoardings as the causes of power interruption and that they have started restoration operation. The APSPDCL officials formed a team with 25 linemen and engineers to clear the obstructions and similarly a control room has been started in the collectorate with phone number 18004254099 to monitor the situation and to receive complaints.
A big hoarding fell on a car at Hindu College centre and three people travelling in the car narrowly escaped as they jumped out from the car. The police, fire and forest department officials rushed to the spot and removed the big hoarding with the help of three excavators. Similarly, hoardings in large numbers fell on every road which obstructed the traffic. The public are lamenting that Guntur Municipal Corporation did not take action against illegal hoardings which became a threat during rain and gales.
Residents of Brodipeta, R .Vinod and others lamented that sudden rain and power cut started on Sunday and was continuing for the past four days. They said that they were forced to remain in darkness the whole night on Sunday and Monday and got power after midnight on Tuesday.
They said that they are unable to attend to duties due to lack of sleep and lamented the absence of power becoming a curse to them. They said that the electricity department should have taken precautionary measures like shifting the poles, replacing damaged power cables and cutting the tree branches which fell on the power lines, poles and transformers to avoid power interruption.
They said that Guntur city was emerging as the main city of the Capital district but the basic amenities like power supply is very bad and sought measures to provide uninterrupted power supply.
