Ooty: The violence in Thoothukudi has also shaken the hills here as Mr. Murali Rambha, popular SP of Nilgiris, an affable yet strict police officer known for his Maoist control measures and tribal outreach, has left the hill-district to take control of the law and order situation in Thoothukudi.
The very fact that Mr. Rambha was instantly chosen to proceed to the violence-marred Thoothukudi showcased that he stood top among his contemporaries in dealing with the tough and challenging situations.
Mr. Rambha, hailing from Andhra Pradesh proved himself to be a tall order IPS officer during his tenure spread over nearly two-and-a half-years in Nilgiris, is certainly a man of character and kindness. His attitude combining affability with strictness has made him an officer witha difference.
Though initially he struggled a bit in dealing with the traffic issues in the hills, he took all the criticism on his strides and evolved better traffic plans for the Nilgiris in the summer tourist season, besides maintaining law and order in laudable way, that won the accolades.
While the way in which he handled and cracked the dacoity-cum-murder case In Kodanad estate in April 2017 proved his astute “police intelligence”. Mr. Rambha’s approach to Maoist control measures in the hill borders and reaching out the remote tribal hamlets to orient their minds of tribesmen towards national mainstream would be etched in the annals of Nilgiris policing.
