Smart City projects: Modi to hold video talk with Belagavi City Corporation officials

Besides the gas network, a series of initiatives will take off for Belagavi under Smart City Project following the video conferencing.

Belagavi: A City Gas Distribution Network covering 43,000 households  will be launched in Belagavi following a video conference between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and officials of the Belagavi City Corporation on Saturday. Besides the gas network, a series of initiatives will take off for Belagavi  under the Smart City Project  following the video conferencing.    

City Corporation Commissioner, G Prabhu, revealed  both a technical team and officials would brief the Prime Minister on the gas network that will cover 1800 kms across the city.

“The PM will also be informed about a major project to improve sewage treatment, which will be launched shortly at an estimated cost of Rs 156 crore. Tenders are likely to be finalised  for the project within the next two weeks,'' he said.

The corporation  is  gearing up to open the Smart City Limited Office to oversee all major works to be carried out under the Smart City Project after the talk with Mr Modi.  It is  expected to sign two MoUs with the BSNL the same day to launch a GPS-based monitoring system for all vehicles used for solid waste management and for installing Wi-fi hotspots.

A modular toilet project, to be implemented in association with the Tatas in all parts of the city, will be launched after officials demonstrate a sample modular toilet to the PM,  according to Mr Prabhu. Mr Modi will video conference with officials of all 20 city corporations selected for the Smart City Project  the same day from Pune.
