Hyderabad: While Congress MLA from Munugodu, Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy is waiting for his suspension from the party, the Congress is taking legal opinion about the action to be taken against him.

On the directions of the party’s high command, the TPCC’s disciplinary committee sent a show cause notice to Mr Komatireddy on June 17, to explain the remarks he made about the Congress party and its leadership. He has been given 10 days to reply to the notice.

TPCC sources said that Mr Komatireddy had not sent his reply, and sources close to him said he was unlikely to give any reply to the show cause notice.

AICC general secretary and Telangana state Congress affairs in-charge R.C. Khuntia said that the high command had taken a serious view of the remarks made by Mr Komati-reddy and action would be taken against him.

Mr Komatireddy is said to be expecting his suspension order on June 27 and will join the BJP the very next day, according to his close associates. He left for Delhi on Monday, where he is likely to meet BJP leaders and brief them about others who might join the saffron party.

The other Congress leaders from the state who are likely to defect to the BJP are former minister Boda Janardhan, former MLAs P. Shashidhar Reddy and Arepalli Mohan and a few others.

From the Telangana Telugu Desam party, the defectors are likely to be former minister E. Peddireddy and former MP Chada Suresh Reddy.

The Congress leadership is weighing the pros and cons of suspending Mr Komatireddy. They are taking the opinion of legal experts about the possibility of filing a petition against Mr Komatireddy if he joins the BJP after his suspension from the party.

No change in TS Congress leadership, says Khuntia

AICC general secretary and Telangana state Congress affairs in-charge R.C. Khuntia on Monday said there would be no change of TPCC chief and the high command was not contemplating removing Mr N. Uttam Kumar Reddy from the post. He added that the Congress would fight the upcoming municipal elections under the leadership of Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Mr Khuntia said that Mr Rahul Gandhi was a good fighter and it was proved in the recent Lok Sabha elections. He said that the TPCC had passed a resolution appreciating the great work done by Mr Gandhi as the party president and he should continue to lead the party.

Meanwhile, Congress MLA Jagga Reddy on Monday said that he was also in the race for the post of TPCC president. He said that he had requested AICC general secretary and Telangana state in-charge of Congress affairs R.C. Khuntia to give the post to him, saying that he knew how to bring the Congress into power.

However, Mr Jagga Reddy said that there was no need to change the TPCC chief at present as the municipal elections and Huzur-nagar Assembly byelections were ahead.

He said that there were many Congress leaders in the race for the post and all of them were eligible for the chief’s post. He said, “In the regional parties there is only a single hero but in the Congress there are several heroes.”
