Three labourers killed in mini lorry-van collision in Kurnool

ANANTAPUR: Three daily wage labourers lost their lives, and 12 others sustained severe injuries when the van they were traveling in collided with a mini lorry at Kodumur in Kurnool district on Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Muthu, 35, Mallaiah, 38, and Veeresh of Holagunda mandal in Kurnool district. They were en route to the Telangana border areas in search of employment opportunities.

According to the police, a group of 15 daily wage labourers from Holagunda had planned to migrate to the Telangana border areas in search of daily wage work. In the early hours of Sunday, they were traveling in a van from their village.

A mini lorry traveling from Srisailam to Mantralayam collided with their van near Kodumur, as the mini lorry driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

The collision resulted in the immediate deaths of Muthu and Mallaiah, while 13 others sustained serious injuries. The injured victims were promptly transferred to Kurnool General Hospital, where Veeresh succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The remaining 12 victims with severe injuries are currently receiving medical care at the hospital. Kodumur police have registered a case against the mini lorry driver based on a complaint lodged by the victims.
