All power units to get Aadhaar-like number
This is being done to protect the grid as its frequency is being affected by private plants suddenly stopping power generation.
Hyderabad: The Union power ministry has made it mandatory for all units generating more than 1 MW power from conventional sources to submit details regarding installed capacity and power being generated, even as it tries to provide each unit with a unique registration number.
This is being done to protect the grid as its frequency is being affected by private plants suddenly stopping power generation. The ministry has also made it compulsory for captive power plants connected to electricity grids to provide the details if the total install capacity exceeded 1 MW.
The Union power ministry said that after repeated directions, only 60 per cent of power units were submitting the details to the Central Electricity Authority. The Union power ministry has directed state governments to take action against plants which are not submitting the details.
Even in case of some conventional power plants of independent producers, information was only made available during the time of commissioning of the plant.
The main objective was to a devise mechanism to assign a unique registration number, on the lines of the Aadhaar number, to each generating unit under the proposed National Level Data Registry System to be maintained by Central Electricity Authority.
