Thiruvananthapuram: The white female Pomeranian dog which was abandoned by its owner in the city for the alleged “illicit relationship” with a neighbourhood dog has become the darling of pet lovers.

Many have come forward expressing interest in adopting her.

It was two days ago the Pomeranian appeared at the World Anayara Market with a note tied underneath its collar that she was being abandoned for its “illicit relationship”.

Ever since Shameem Faruque, a writer, found the abandoned dog, she has become the darling of the pet lovers as well as the media for all the wrong reasons.  The 3-year-old was found confused and lost. Ms Faruque realised that there was a note under her collar only after bringing her home. The story went viral on social media.

“It is a very good dog. Good habits. Do not need a lot of food. No illnesses. She’s given a bath every five days. She only barks - in three years, she has not bitten anyone. She's mostly fed milk, biscuits and eggs. She is being abandoned because she was found to have an illicit relationship with a dog in the neighbourhood,” said the strange note.

Efforts are still on to trace the elusive and weird dog owner who has inflicted great pain to the Pomeranian. But Ms Faruque says the ‘pom’ is very choosy and like mentioned in the bizarre note; she does not like biscuits or raw eggs.

“Poms have an attitude and is very choosy on who touches them and also what they eat. On Wednesday, I bathed her, and she was very cooperative. But she is not friendly with my maid. Several queries have come from pet lovers expressing interest in adopting her,” the new owner told DC.

But she wonders how one can abandon their pet just because she is on heat.

She already has got four Labradors, Atlas, Nishka, Spot and Balu. So when the foursome is inside the kennel, the ‘pom’ is allowed to roam in the compound which has not gone down well with the Labrador family.

People for Animals full-time member Sreedevi S. Kartha will take a call on the adoption.
