Bengaluru: The High Court on Wednesday directed the State government to file an affidavit stating the time frame within which it will take measures in identifying silent zones in the state.

The court was hearing the PIL filed by the Defence Colony Residents’ Association and others against the mushrooming of pubs in Indiranagar.

The petition further accuses state and its agencies and instrumentalities in implementing the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000.

The court while asking the state government to identify silent zones, it further observed that apart from identification of silent zones, the state should set and regulate the permissible noise levels in such zones.

It went on to observe that without identifying silent zones and regulating it, the noise pollution cannot be effective controlled. It also felt that the 19-year-old rule calls for minor changes and the state government should look into it.

Meanwhile, the state has submitted that it has invited objections from public over the draft rules framed for identifying silent zones.
