Bengaluru: Former Mandya MP, Ramya may have been heavily attacked in social media for her remarks on Pakistan, but the issue does not seem to interest the Congress party's rivals in the state.  In fact, JDS supremo and former prime minister  H.D. Deve Gowda on Wednesday defended the young leader, saying  he did not see anything wrong in her statement.

“There are good people in Pakistan too, who would love to have good relations with India. It was former prime minister Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee, who  began transport between India and Pakistan.  But  fundamentalists in both countries are bent on spoiling  relations.  Politicians don't care about patriotism, they  only want power,'' he said. Accusing the BJP of unnecessarily politicising the issue, the veteran politician  maintained that  nothing better could be expected of it.

Refusing to go into the merits or otherwise of  Ms Ramya's comments, state JD(S) president, H.D. Kumaraswamy  said  that he did not want to judge whether Pakistani people were good or bad.

“The problem is in Kashmir and both national parties have been sitting on it for the last 70 years.  They have their own agenda on the issue,'' he regretted.

Former Chief Minister and  BJP state president, B S Yeddyurappa, when contacted, said  there was no question of the party taking a stand on the former MP's statement.

“Somebody from her party should advise her on Indo-Pak problems. She has just entered politics from the film world and may not understand the repercussions of taking a soft stand on countries like Pakistan,'' was all he said.
