Bengaluru: Union Minister, D.V. Sadananda Gowda has requested  PWD minister, H.D.Revanna to open the Shiradi Ghat for traffic as the train service too has been disrupted by landslides on the Hassan- Subramanya route.

Recalling that the government had recently opened the Shiradi ghat for traffic and then closed it again following heavy rain in Sakaleshpura and landslides in the ghat section, Mr  Gowda said he had been informed by the officials concerned that they needed only a week to clear it of the debris.

“When I discussed the matter with the officers concerned, they told me that they needed only a week’s time to make Shiradi ghat fit for traffic again as there have been landsides only at four or five places,” Mr. Gowda said in his letter, adding that the  indefinite closure of the ghat road was badly inconveniencing frequent travellers on the route and commercial vehicle operators

Mr. Gowda has also instructed  the Bengaluru urban Deputy Commissioner,  to release his MP fund of Rs. 20 lakh to Kodagu for relief work.  BJP legislator, Lehar Singh too has announced release of Rs 1 crore from his local area development fund to the Chief Minister’s relief fund for Kodagu’s flood victims.
