Special lottery to raise funds for Kerala flood relief

The lottery will be rolled out from September 3 and the draw will be on October 3.

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has announced a special lottery named ‘Ashwas’ to raise funds for the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF).  Finance minister T.M. Thomas Isaac told reporters in Alappuzha on Friday that tickets would be prized at Rs 250. The lottery will be rolled out from September 3 and the draw will be on October 3.

All the profits from the lottery other than the prize money and other expenses would go to the CMDRF. There would be a first prize of Rs 1 lakh in each series and one lakh prizes of Rs 5,000. The government expected a net income of Rs 90 crore. The commission for the ticket is 25 percent. Mr Isaac said that anyone can sell the tickets after obtaining temporary licence.
