Kochi: Palluruthy relief official suspended

Kochi: A day after the superintendent of the Palluruthy Relief Settlement, under Kochi Corporation, was arrested by the police for allegedly assaulting an elderly woman, the civic body on Tuesday suspended him from service.
The suspension order against Anwar Hussain, superintendent of Pallu-ruthy Relief Settlement (PRS) centre, was issued by corporation additional secretary R. Rahesh Kumar after the video footage of the assault against Karthyayani Amma, who reached the centre, went viral on social media.
The order mentioned that action was initiated following a preliminary inquiry by the PRS centre.
“The preliminary inquiry found that Anwar had committed the crime. We hereby suspend him from the services with immediate effect based on Kerala Civil Service (Classification Control and Appeal rule 1960 section 10 (b) for further probe,” the order signed by the additional secretary reads.
Meanwhile, the Women's Commission member Adv. Shiji Sivaji visited the centre on Tuesday and collected evidence including statements from the inmates and other staffs.
It was around 11 am on Monday, the woman who reached at the centre to meet her 38-year-old mentally unstable daughter, was allegedly assaulted by the superintendent after she questioned him about her daughter being allegedly forced to work as a maid at his house in Thiruvanathapuram.
Meanwhile, following the direction from District Collector S. Suhas, the police had registered a case against Anwar invoking IPC sections 323, 324, 354, 294 (B) and 506 (1). Anwar was produced before a court on Tuesday and remanded.
