In Bogus Voter Registry Attempt, Miscreants Upload Ganesha Picture in Form 6
Hyderabad: Miscreants, in an attempt to create a bogus voter, uploaded a portrait of Lord Ganesha along with the application to the Election Commission’s website for enrolment and provided the address and phone numbers of unrelated persons.
The incident took place in Ghattuppal mandal of Munugode constituency, where the phone number was found to be of a homemaker, who started getting calls from the revenue department officials seeking to inquire about the picture.
After revenue officials visited the address given by the applicant, the officials found the application was fake. On their recommendation, the mandal tahsildar rejected the application.
Officials said that the Election Commission provided a facility to upload details of people to enrol their names as voters online. Taking advantage of this, a miscreant filled in Form 6 by uploading a Lord Ganesha picture, and mobile number of a businessman's wife from Warangal and furnished the address as Kailasham in Munugode constituency of Nalgonda district, they said.
The woman whose phone number was shared said she was shocked to receive multiple calls from unknown persons, including revenue officials.
“Unknown persons used my mobile number by uploading on the Election Commission portal to enrol as voter. It was an embarrassing situation for me after my mobile number was uploaded. I also received information that the miscreants added my mobile number to their Aadhaar cards too. I request officials to take action,” she said.
Nalgonda revenue officials said that they removed the data from the portal and informed higher officials for further action. District electoral officials also assured of taking necessary action
