Hyderabad: Teachers and employees held a protest in front of Pragathi Bhavan on Sunday, demanding immediate 'spouse transfers' as promised. Several women, who came from different districts, were detained until 9.30 pm for the protest.

"We left kids back home and have no way to return home at this late hour. My son is unwell. I came here to fight for a cause, and we've been treated so inhumanly. There's no toilet or water here. Is this how women here are treated," asked a protestor.

Another protestor said that they would not relent until education minister Sabitha Indra Reddy put an end to their 'torture.'

According to the protestors, the government had separated more than 80,000 couples by posting them in different districts, leaving them with no way to care for their children, parents or families. "Leader after leader has made multiple promises to undertake spouse transfers but in vain. They have deliberately done nothing to vacate the stay order imposed by the High Court," said Harinakshi P, a teacher.

"It's sad that these teachers and employees have been making repeated requests to the government for the last two years but have been ignored,” said Chava Ravi, general secretary, Telangana State United Teachers Federation (TSUTF). “Although 22,000 teacher posts are vacant, only 5,089 posts have been notified to DSC. Why can't the teachers be transferred to fill the remaining vacancies."
