Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday asked the Telangana government as to why it has not approached the Supreme Court against the stay granted by the Delhi-based National Green Tribunal on construction of the Kaleswaram lift irrigation scheme.

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Rangan-athan and Justice M. Ganga Rao was dealing with the petition of the state government seeking to vacate NGT’s stay.

Mr D. Prakash Reddy, advocate general of Telangana, told the court that the tribunal passed the interim order in the absence of the technical member of the bench, which is illegal.

He said the NGT has issued an interim stay hurriedly. The government informed it that they are taking up only drinking water related works which don’t need any environmental clearances.
