On Saturday he received a call from Priya Iyer who said that she and her family would like to meet him at Chennai on Tuesday.

Chennai: City police have launched a hunt for three men and a woman who lured a 42-year-old man on the pretext of marriage and robbed cash and jewellery in Vadapalani on Tuesday.

According to police, Kalisaran (42) lives in M.M.D.A Colony at Arumbakkam and works in a private firm. Police said that he registered at a popular matrimonial website in the city two years ago.

A woman identified as Priya Iyer from Bengaluru and Kalisaran came into contact with each other around a month ago through the matrimonial website and started communicating.

On Saturday he received a call from Priya Iyer who said that she and her family would like to meet him at Chennai on Tuesday.

 On Tuesday at around 7 pm, he arrived on Ponnammal Street near Hundred feet road in Vadapalani. He saw a woman in a saree who introduced herself as Priya Iyer.

After a few minutes, three other men came to the scene and she introduced them as her relatives. They led him to a service apartment in Vadapalani where they robbed his phone, an ATM card and the four sovereigns of gold he was wearing. They also took the pin number of his ATM card. They threatened him at knifepoint not to disclose the matter to police.

At 11 30 pm, he was released by them. He immediately lodged a complaint with Vadapalani police station.

Police registered a case and primary investigation revealed that the woman and three other men had taken the room in the apartment on Monday.

Police have launched a hunt for the woman and the three men based on the CCTV footages recovered from the street. They are also investigating the manager of the service apartment.
