Vijayawada: Machilipatnam Urban Development Authority (MUDA) chairman B. Veda Vyas alleged that the Opposition parties were trying to mislead the public with regard to construction of the Bandar Port even when the government was offering Rs 25 lakh per acre to the farmers parting their lands for the facility. He said that leaders of Opposition parties were encouraging the farmers to file a PIL in the court against the Bandar port.

He said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu sanctioned Rs 200 crore to MUDA and asserted that the port will be constructed despite hurdles.

Addressing the media here on Wednesday, Mr Vyas said that the state government was providing funds with bank guarantee to acquire  lands.

He exuded confidence that the government would resolve all the issues regarding the port and complete the works as per schedule.

TD MLC B. Arjunudu recalled that once the Bandar port flourished as the main port in South India. “Once the port works are complete, Bandar will gain prominence as a trade and business centre.  

He said that the government rate of Rs 25 lakh per acre  was a good price and added that farmers were willing to offer their lands for that price. “All the problems will be resolved soon and the port will be a reality.”
