Bengaluru: TDR to rescue, roads to be wider

BELAGAVI: Traffic snarls in some parts of the central business district are likely to decrease as members of the erstwhile royal family of Mysuru have agreed to part with 12 acres of Bengaluru Palace grounds through Transfer of  Development Rights (TDR)  scheme  to facilitate widening of two key roads, according to minister for Bengaluru city development, K.J. George.

He told Sayyed Mudhir Aga of JD(S) in the Legislative Council that roads between BDA junction and Mekhri circle, and Cantonment railway station and Mekhri circle, would be widened by acquiring part of Bangalore Palace grounds and small piece of private land as the SC, in its order pronounced on November 11, 2016,  had allowed BBMP to take  over land through TDR scheme.  

Mr George sad the high court had issued directions to the state government to  widen Jayamahal  road to facilitate a smooth flow of traffic. He said in all 15 acres would be acquired for widening these two roads.
