Water tankers pressed into service inside the woods at MTR.

Ooty: The absence of rains and dry weather is impacting wild animals in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) prompting the forest administration to provide water for the animals with water tankers. It is shocking that in November itself foresters are resorting to water tankers to quench the thirst of wild animals in MTR.

Official sources in MTR said that water sources in a few places in the forest have begun to go dry in November itself because of paucity of monsoon rains. Water is being taken in tankers to fill up ponds and troughs in a few places inside the woods in Theppakadu range. “The water tanker operation commenced on Thursday.  On a day about 18,000 liters of water is carted in tankers inside the forest. This arrangement would continue till the water position improves in the jungles,” a source said.
