Mock Tsunami drills held in East Godavari coast
People were instructed on how to save themselves and others in such emergency situations.
Kakinada: Mock drills were conducted in coastal villages like Konapapet in U. Kothapalli mandal of Kakinada coast in East Godavari and Pedamynivani Lanka in Narasapuram coast of West Godavari on Friday to educate people on their responses in the event of natural calamities like Tsunami, cyclones among others. People were instructed on how to save themselves and others in such emergency situations. A practical training has been given to them.
Nearly 30 departments such as Revenue, police, coast guard, National Disaster Response Force, fire services, fisheries department, rural water supply, medical and health participated in the mock drills. People of Konapapapet village have been evacuated with Tsunami alerts and were given shelter in Zilla Parishad school.
Narasapuram sub-collector Sumit Kumar Gandhi at Pedamynivani Lanka said that people should help officials while rescuing pregnant women, children and aged persons during the calamities. The Disaster Management Project Manager G. Srinivasa Rao said that we can't give precautions of Tsunami, but when it occurs, people should get ready facing any challenges in such situations.
