175 cusecs of Godavari water was pumped into Yeleru.
Rajahmundry: Water resources authorities have successfully carried out trial run of stage-II of Purushottapatnam lift irrigation scheme by pumping 175 cusecs of Godavari water from Ramavaram Pump House to Yeleru reservoir travelling a distance of about 13.26 km through Polavaram Left Main Canal in East Godavari on Friday.
As the state government intends to complete execution of Purushottapatnam lift scheme in an expeditious manner, the water resources authorities have installed three motors and three pumps out of the targeted eight motors and eight pumps. For trail run, the authorities switched on one motor and one pump and lifted Godavari water and pumped 175 cusecs to Yeleru Reservoir.
The authorities say that as a precautionary measure, they are operating the motor and pump carefully to avoid any damage or trouble and keeping close observation. At stage-II, the authorities are supposed to pump 1,400 cusecs of water to Yeleru Reservoir with eight motors and eight pumps becoming operational. At present, only one motor and one pump was put into operation and it may take a few more days for all motors and pumps to be pressed into service.
Polavaram Irrigation Project LMC executive engineer S.V. Rajendra Prasad said, “We have successfully carried out the stage-II trial run by pumping 175 cusecs of water from Ramavaram pump house to Yeleru reservoir by pressing into service only one motor and one pump.”
Jaggampeta MLA Jyothula Nehru and Prathipadu MLA V. Subba Rao were present at the conduct of trail run of the Purushottapatnam lift scheme. It may be mentioned that CM N. Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated stage-I of the lift scheme on August 15 by discharging 3,500 cusecs of water.
