Bengaluru: Following a complaint filed by Mr V.S. Ugrappa, Congress MLC and chairperson of legislature committee on crimes against women and children, the Vidhana Soudha police arrested two people.

The arrested have been identified as Arun Kumar Hegde, 50, of Shivamogga, and Pradeep Kumar C.V., 35, of Davangere. While Pradeep is working as a lecturer at a private college, Arun is a diploma holder, who owns an electrical shop in Shivamogga.

The police said the two had passed derogatory remarks against Mr Ugrappa and the Congress on Facebook and Whatsapp. Mr Ugrappa was targeted for his recent remarks on Ramachandrapura Math seer Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swamy.

Mr Ugrappa had said that the police are not taking any action against the seer, though he is facing sexual harassment charges by two women. The two accused started defaming him using vulgar language on social media.

“Based on our preliminary inquiry, we have found that the two accused were involved in circulating derogatory remarks against MLC Ugrappa, Congress party and minority communities. Cases have been slapped against them under Section 66 (A) of the IT act. Further interrogations are going on and the two accused will be produced before the court,” the police said.
