Leaders of SRB claimed that the brigade would help the BJP win 30-35 seats during next Assembly elections.
Two mammoth daises, measuring 800X350 feet and 200X350 feet, will accommodate more than 200 leaders and pontiffs belonging to these communities with a mega shelter for 2 lakh people.
Leader of Opposition K S Eshwarappa and president of the brigade, K Virupakshappa, have been camping in Bagalkot district to supervise all arrangements.. Mr Eshwarappa told the media in Bagalkot that the brigade has been launched to create awareness among Dalits and backward classes about welfare schemes, and ensure they reap the benefits of these schemes.
Expressing displeasure against state BJP president B S Yeddyurappa for opposing the brigade, Mr Eshwarappa condemned the move to launch a signature campaign against him by several BJP legislators. Stating that such act will be considered as indiscipline, he said in-charge of Karnataka BJP affars Muralidhar Rao will not give importance to such move. "I have already brought to the notice of BJP national president about importance of forming the brigade in bringing the party back to power. Signature is collected only from 28 people out of 668 leaders who had taken part in State BJP executive meet in Gulbarga. Therefore, there is no value in the eyes of the party high command for such a campaign, he said.
