86 acres allotted to JNTUK college in Narasaraopeta

GUNTUR: The AP government has resolved the difficulties of students of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) Engineering College at Narasaraopeta by granting 86 acres for construction of their own campus.
The engineering college affiliated to JNTU-K, which began functioning from 2016 and the government allotted 86 acres at Kakani for construction of buildings. The allotted land belongs to APIIC and so the college could not begin construction works despite having funds and sought change of title.
However, the college has been operating on the premises of AM Reddy Engineering College without proper amenities, forcing the students to stay in private rented rooms paying high rents.
Finally, the government had taken back the land from APIIC and allotted it to JNTU and the institution planned to shift to its own campus by 2017 but could not.
In 2017, the classes were held in NBT and NVC College and are continuing in the same institution till today.
Students of the college, B. Surya and S. Mahesh said they had been paying Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 per month for rent, food and transportation due to lack of hostel and canteen facility. "We are not able to prepare for exams in this small and noisy rooms," they said and urged the authorities to complete the construction works at the earliest.
College principal Prof. K.V.S.G. Murali Krishna said JNTUK allotted Rs 80 crore for the college at Narasaraopeta and called for tenders but due to title deed objection, the works had not started. In the first phase, works worth Rs 30 crore will be taken up after handing over the land.
