Bengaluru get ready to be served by mobile Indira Canteens

Bengaluru: Cashing in on the growing food truck trend in the city, Indira Canteens will now serve quality food at highly subsidised cost to their customers from world class trucks equipped with solar panels and inbuilt water supply in 24 wards of Bengaluru, which do not have a permanent canteen.
And best off all, they are ready to be flagged off on Republic Day by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. BBMP Special Commissioner, Manoj Rajan told the Deccan Chronicle, "We studied the top 10 food truck models and customised high precision trucks for 24 wards, which do not have a permanent Indira Canteen. These mobile canteens are ergonomically designed with cash and food counters for effective operation and speedy distribution of food."
The steel bodied trucks will come equipped with CCTV and GPS for effective surveillance and monitoring and will have electronic ticker boards to display the number of plates of food available, besides PoS machines to issue food tokens. The trucks will load food from centralised kitchens and will work according to the timings of the permanent canteens.
Their power will be generated from two solar panels mounted on top of them and they will have in-built drinking water tank of 250 litres with two dispensers, and a separate overhead water tank for hand wash with two dispensers.
“Not even one drop of waste water will be let out, but will be collected in a tank of 350 litres capacity and let out when the truck comes to collect food from the centralised kitchens,” Mr Rajan assured . Of the 198 wards, 174 have permanent canteens. Besides the 24 that are ready work is on to build two more mobile canteens for the city.
