Portions omitted by Governor P Sathasivam to be taken as read

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Speaker P.  Sreeramakrishnan told the Assembly on Thursday that certain portions of the government's policy skipped by Governor P. Sathasivam in his address will be considered as read. While delivering the address in the House on Monday, the governor had  skipped certain portions critical of the BJP government at the centre. The speaker, who held discussions with the governor on the matter later,  told the House  that since the governor did not formally seek any corrections in the printed policy address, the entire matter  should be considered as the government's policy.

The speaker gave the ruling after the Opposition  raised a point of order  during the discussions on the motion of thanks to the governor's address. In the printed copy of his address,  there was a reference to the alleged tendency of the central government to ride ‘roughshod’ over   the traditions of cooperative federalism  bypassing the state government. However, this portion was not read out by the governor.

The governor also omitted the reference about the ‘plotting’ by some communal outfits in triggering riots in the southern state. "Kerala has once again been identified as first in the country in the maintenance of law and order and tops the country in the ranking of quality of life. There has not been any instance of communal riot in our state despite the plotting by certain communal outfits," the printed speech said.
