Telangana fails to get any of the Padmas

Hyderabad: No one from Telangana state figured in the list of 85 Padma awardees announced by the Centre ahead of Republic Day, and only badminton star Kidambi Srikanth from Andhra Pradesh made it to the list from the two Telugu states.

TS is learnt to have recommended 20 names which include the late PM P.V. Narasimha Rao (posthumous), TS ideologue late Prof. A. Jayashankar (posthumous), Chukka Sathaiah (posthumous — folk arts),  Andesri (poet and singer) among others.

Maharashtra bagged the highest number of 11 Padma awards. Among those who got the Padma Vibhushan incudes music director Illaiyaraja.

Nine were conferred the Padma Bhushan including Mahendra Singh Dhoni (cricket).
