Telangana: Guide to Medaram' app to keep devotees on track

WARANGAL: Director General of Police, M. Mahendar Reddy, on Thursday, launched a mobile application, ‘Guide to Medaram’.

The police boss was overseeing the security arrangements for the ‘Sammakka – Saralamma Jatara’ at Medaram.

Vice President of India, Venkaiah Naidu, Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao are scheduled to visit Medaram Jatara on February 2.

Keeping this fact in mind, the top police officer inspected the security arrangements being made at the site.

Later, he launched the application at police command control room. The application which is available in both Telugu and English languages, guides the devotees arriving and departing from Medaram by showing them the assigned routes apart from giving them important information about Medaram Jatara.

The available parking locations from the route they are arriving, the diversions, distance from their current location etc can also be accessed through this app. More than 30 parking locations have been geotagged and can be seen in the app. The capacity of each of the parking locations, those full and those with vacancy are displayed. 

Apart from travel information, the application informs about importance of Medaram. The dates of the jatara, what goes on each day are available. 

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Mahendar Reddy said the police department is taking steps to ensure the safety and security of devotees during the jatara.

“We have roped in 10,000 police persons for the jatara along with drones, CCTV cameras, VMS crowd control and queue line monitoring cameras. This new application would go a long way in helping the devotees follow the correct routes and reach their destination safely,” he said.

Intelligence and North Zone IGs Naveen Chand and Nagi Reddy, Warangal Commissioner of Police G. Sudheer Babu, Jayashankar Bhupalapalli Superintendent of Police R. Bhaskaran, Bhadradri Kothagudem SP A.K. Jha and others were present.
