Hyderabad: Mission Kakatiya could have made Telangana state paanidar but due to the corruption by contractors, it cannot be, said Rajendra Singh, known as the Waterman of India.

In the second plenary session of the Hyderabad Literary Festival, hosted by IT secretary Jayesh Ranjan, Mr Singh (a former doctor from Rajasthan) spoke on climate change, global warming and water management.

“I had hoped that Telangana would become water surplus (paanidar) state when Mission Kakatiya was started. Before going into the hands of contractors, Mission Kakatiya was the best project of the country. But corruption in India does not spare anything. After the project has gone into the hands of contractors, and money into their pockets, this project has become corrupt,” he said.

He asked the state government to set aside contractors. It would be beneficial if the community is involved in the water conservation project. He said, “Through this interaction, I would like to remind K. Chandrasekhar Rao of this issue.”

On the grand plan of interlinking of rivers, Mr Singh said that it is only for interlinking of bribes as this won’t ward off the water scarcity problem.
