No threat to HD Kumaraswamy government: AH Vishwanath

Mysuru: State Janata Dal (Secular) president A.H. Vishwanath said here on Friday  that he was confident the recent “resort politics” had ended and there was no threat to the coalition government.

“It will not topple at any cost. MLAs and ministers must stop breaking their heads about this and return to their respective constituencies to focus on their problems and on handling the drought. I will write to them about this,” he said, speaking to reporters.

 Mr Vishwanath claimed that in his urgency to become Chief Minister, state BJP chief, B S Yeddyurappa was resorting to negative means to gain power. "BJP leaders must stop their toppling game and make suggestions on the budget instead," he suggested.

The JD(S) leader hit out at the BJP government at the Centre, claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had failed to keep the promises made to the people in the party's poll manifesto. "Under the wave of demonetisation and GST, the Modi wave has vanished. They have failed in all sectors and are now raising the issue of building the Ram Mandir. Why haven't they done it so far?" he demanded, adding that with pre- poll surveys indicating a fractured verdict in the Lok Sabha poll, Mr Narendra Modi was unlikely to become Prime Minister again. 

 Mr Vishwanath was, however, dismissive of  pre- poll surveys giving the BJP a win in 14  constituencies of the state in the Lok Sabha poll, saying, "Let them save their eight Lok Sabha constituencies first." 

Welcoming the entry of Ms Priyanka Gandhi into politics, he said this was essential to rejuvenate the Congress party. "She resembles (the late Prime Minister) Mrs Indira Gandhi," he added.
