Thanjavur: Hundreds of musicians rendered the pancharathna kritis in chorus and paid homage to the saint composer, Sri Thyagaraja, at the 172nd aradhana festival observed at the saint's samadhi on the banks of Cauvery at Thiruvaiyaru, on Friday.
The musicians sang the five kritis, considered as five gems, in chorus between 9 am and 10 am. Prior to the singing, an unchavruthi bhajan was taken out from the saint's residence (now a memorial) and reached the aradhana pandal.
Abhishekam and alankaram were done to the saint's idol at the samadhi. Aarthi was performed at the end of the singing of pancharathna kritis.
Carnatic musicians who took part in the singing include Sudha Raghunathan, Mahathi, Sirkali Sivachidambaram, Haridwaramangalam A.K. Palanivel and others.
An idol of the saint was taken in a procession with mallari in the evening. Anjaneya utsavam followed the procession.
