Vijayawada: Rose show captivates all
Exhibition has over 1,000 varieties of flowers on display .
Vijayawada: The fourth edition of the horticulture rose show presently underway in Vijayawada is attracting large crowds.
The exhibition, organised by the Rose Society of AP and Haritha Priya Plant Lovers Society, with the support of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, began on January 23 and has on display over 1,000 plants with 500 varieties of roses.
Rare varieties of rose like Valentine Rose, Iceberg rose, Gladiator rose etc are also on display. Apart from this, agri, horticulture, bonsai and organic stalls have been set up.
About 100 stalls in the exhibition have fibre and plastic flower pots, terracotta decorative pots, and flower vase which are attracting large crowds.
The ‘One Lakh Toys Show’ is a major attraction; the stall has been set up by the Nalluru Old Age Home. Visitors are seen taking selfies in front of the toys. Bonsai, fruits and flowers, organic fertilisers and the millet stalls too are quite popular, going by the number of visitors.
Visitors, mostly women, from all corners of the city are expressing interest to buy flower plants like marigold, dahlia, jasmine, hibiscus, chrysanthemum, daisy, lily, gerbera, orchid, crossandra and bougainvillaea.
RSAP president Totakuri Akhilandeswari Rani said “Horticulture sector is fast developing in Vijayawada and Guntur. To encourage horticulture and organic products we are exhibiting most of the verities of plants. We are expecting around 20,000 people from across the city to visit the Rose Fest.”
K. Sridevi, a housewife from Gurunanak Colony said “Every year, we come to this expo, and this year I prefer to purchase organic fertilisers and the fibre pots. I also bought a few new bonsai plants.”
“We are showcasing food like korru payasam, wada, gare, cutlet, polav and several variety foods with millets in this fest. To educate people about their health we are displaying a variety of recipes that can be prepared with millets,” said Raju of Millet House.
