Chennai: Opposition parties including DMDK, MDMK and Left have termed the Union railway budget presented by railway minister Suresh Prabhu a big let down for Tamil Nadu.

DMDK chief Vijayakanth appreciated the railway budget for not hiking fares and allocating funds to fast pace the project using technology.  The announcement on 33 per cent reservation for women commuters in ticket bookings and additional concession for the senior citizens are welcome one," he said in a statement. However, he expressed his disappointment as  no announcement was made on  expected projects.

Alleging that over 20 railway projects announced in the state were left to lurch, MDMK general secretary Vaiko, in a statement said non allocation of adequate funds for the Chennai-Kanyakumari doubling is delaying the project.
