Puducherry: Left parties and their allies held demonstration in five places here on Thursday against the agenda of BJP-led central government to ‘saffronize’ higher education system across the country.
The leaders, including CPI unit secretary R. Viswanathan, CPI (M) unit secretary R. Rajangam, MDMK committee president in-charge A. Chandrasekaran, VCK principal secretary Deva Pozhilan and RSP secretary K.Lenin led the protest march and held a demonstration in front of Raj Nivas here.
Leaders slammed the BJP government saying that it is trying to implement ‘Hindutva’ agenda and openly threatening democracy by suppressing the voice of students in the country.
“Not only in JNU, Hyderabad or Pune, but the controversy over charges of ‘Islamisation’ in Pondicherry University is also part of the same policy of central government to thrust its Hindutva agenda in higher education institutions. If we question it we are marked as ‘anti nationals’,” he said.
The protesters also demanded the immediate release of Kanhaiya Kumar, president of Jawaharlal Nehru University students’ union and withdrawal of sedition case filed against him.
