It won only the three seats of Thandavpura, Gargeswari, and Mellallli-Harohalli and lost three to the BJP.

Mysuru: Congress leaders here are undecided about their next move as the party, which has won 22 seats in the recent election  to the  Mysuru  Zilla Panchayat, is short of  just three seats to come to power in the local body.

Meanwhile, the  JD(S) and BJP seem to be heading for an alliance to keep the Congress at bay in the Zilla Panchayat.

“We have not received any directions from either the party high command or the Chief Minister on our next move,” said sources in the KPCC district unit, which has been doing some soul searching to see why the party could not get a clear majority in the election when Mysuru is  Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's home district, and he had campaigned here for five days.

They point out that five candidates lost with a margin of  118 votes or less in Bettadpura  and Koppa ( Periyapatna taluk),  K Belathur  ( HD Kote taluk) Hunasavadi ( Periyapatna taluk) and Hosur ( KRNagar taluk).

Local Congress men are also finding it hard to understand why the party did not bag all the seats in the Chief Minister’s home constituency of Varuna.  It won only the three seats of Thandavpura, Gargeswari, and  Mellallli-Harohalli and lost three to the BJP.

“We lost some Lingayat votes here. There seems to have been a problem in selection of  candidates in some places,” they said.
