Chennai: MDMK leader Vaiko and his ally VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan on Thursday expressed disappointment with the railway budget.

Vaiko  said there is no announcement on Chennai-Tuticorin freight corridor, Chennai-Madurai-Kanyakumari and Madurai-Coimbatore superfast rail corridor, a joint undertaking of railways and Tamil Nadu government.

No funds have been allocated for the auto hub in Chennai and no time limit had been set for Chennai-Delhi freight corridor and improvement of Nagapattinam railway station, he said.

Thirumavalavan said Tamil Nadu had been deceived in the railway budget since it contained no schemes for the state. He said the announcements made in the previous railway budget like fitting CCTV cameras for safety of women and getting '1.5 lakh crore from LIC had been repeated. Though law was enacted to eradicate manual scavenging, lesser number of bio-toilets have been installed, he said.

Since, the BJP government is hiking fares before and after the budget, the announcement that fares would not be hiked could not be welcomed, he said.
